Oven Baked Teriyaki Chicken

Oven-baked teriyaki chicken holds a special place in my heart as one of my all-time favorite childhood meals. The result is a recipe that not only satisfies cravings but also nourishes your body. This homemade teriyaki sauce is gluten-free, low in sodium, and completely free of added sugars, making it a guilt-free indulgence. By swapping out traditional soy sauce for coconut aminos, I’ve created a marinade that’s rich in flavor while being gentle on your digestive system.

Oven baked teriyaki chicken is still one of my all-time favorite recipes from childhood. My mom’s recipe called for store-bought teriyaki marinade, so of course I had to re-create a healthy teriyaki chicken and make a gut-friendly version with no added sugars, natural flavors or emulsifiers which are typically found in sauces on store shelves.

The easy baked teriyaki chicken has a marinade that is especially gut friendly, it is gluten free, low in sodium and does not use soy sauce which is typically high in phytic acid which can inhibit the body’s natural ability to absorb certain minerals during digestion. Most importantly there is no added sugar, even in the Coconut Aminos sauce I use. You can purchase here in a combination pack of three which includes, original, garlic and teriyaki Coconut Aminos. If you’re not familiar with coconut aminos they originally were an alternative to soy sauce but have since expanded into other similar style marinades and sauces. I highly recommend you give them a try as they are a game changer for sauces and marinades in cooking and is the secret ingredient that ties this baked teriyaki chicken recipe together.

Ingredients you will need for this baked teriyaki chicken recipe

  • Chicken Drumsticks

  • Coconut aminos teriyaki and garlic sauce

  • Orange juice-Adds a touch of sweetness to this dish and helps in thickening the sauce.

  • Siracha- A little heat, but not overpowering. Sky valley has probably the cleanest one on the market, with no additives, is gluten free, vegan and IMO taste the best. I also think they make an organic version.

  • Fresh grated ginger– I’ve learned over the years to keep my fresh ginger wrapped in a bag and stored in the freezer. The ginger last so much longer and taste just as fresh!

  • Salt & Pepper

  • Garlic
