Teriyaki beef with broccoli is a classic for a reason! It’s a quick and easy weeknight meal that’s packed with flavor, and it was a lifesaver during my pregnancy and postpartum.
This dish combines tender beef stir-fried with crisp-tender broccoli and coated in a rich, savory teriyaki sauce. It’s perfect for busy weeknights when you need a delicious and satisfying meal on the table fast. Plus, it’s incredibly versatile! I often double the recipe and freeze half for those days when exhaustion hits, and cooking feels impossible, but you still need a healthy meal to put on the table.
Now, as a busy mom, I’m so grateful for the convenience of pre-made meals. Having everything prepped and ready to cook means I can get a delicious, home-cooked dinner on the table in minutes – a lifesaver when I’m sleep-deprived or just need a quick and easy meal from the freezer.
Flank Steak-
Salt- Brings out the flavor of the dish.
Pepper– Seasoning for the beef.
Arrowroot starch- Adds a nice sear to steak as well as thickening agent for sauce.
Teriyaki Sauce without cornstarch*
Coconut Aminos- A soy sauce alternative, adds salty umami flavor, gluten-free.
Honey- Balances the acidity with sweetness, creates a more complex flavor profile
Grated ginger- Adds a warm, pungent flavor and a touch of spice.
Minced garlic- Adds a pungent, savory flavor that complements the other ingredients.
Chili oil- Provides heat and spice, adjust to your desired level. This Redbloom chili oil is the cleanest for ingredients and is a medium heat. I prefer this for this dish for the best flavor profile and balance.
Toasted sesame oil- Adds a subtle nutty and slightly toasty flavor.
Rice wine vinegar- Needed to balance the sweetness with necessary acid.
Filtered water
Cooking Oil
Avocado oil- For searing the meat and broccoli
Garnishes
Sesame seeds- optional
Scallions- optional
Slice Steak Against the Grain- For the most tender steak, always cut against the grain. To do this, identify the direction of the muscle fibers (often visible as lines on the cooked meat) and slice perpendicular to them.
Slice Steak Thinly- This allows for faster and even cooking, but more importantly more flavor absorption from the sauce. Thinly slicing steak becomes easier if the steak is slightly frozen. You can place in the freezer for 30 minutes prior to slicing.
Have ingredients prepped in advance- This recipe cooks quickly, so you really want to have everything cut and prepped and ready to go.
Use high heat & preferably a wok or cast-iron skillet- Start by adding oil and heating your pan to a medium high heat, then place the meat down in a single layer, waiting about 1 minute before stirring/flipping. This will ensure a nice brown crust around the edges form. Be careful not to overcook the meat or it will become tough.
Smaller broccoli cuts- Cut your broccoli fairly small so that it cooks quickly and more evenly.
Teriyaki sauce without cornstarch- Instead of cornstarch, arrowroot starch offers a less processed and effective thickening agent for teriyaki sauce.
Balanced flavors- A complex yet balanced profile defines this sauce, with bold flavors playing against the sweetness, umami, and acidity.
Clean ingredients- Redbloom chili crisp oil is the perfect gut healthy, Non-Gmo chili oil that doesn’t have artificial additives or cheap ingredients. Not only is it clean but it’s delicious!
YES! This broccoli beef dish was my go-to pregnancy freezer meal prep for both my pregnancies. It’s loaded with protein and veggies and is a super quick meal to prepare.
Coat meat-To a freezer bag add thinly sliced meat, arrowroot starch, salt and pepper. Shake well to coat.
Prepare the Sauce: To another freezer bag add all sauce ingredients.
Prepare the Broccoli: Wash and cut broccoli into florets. You can use fresh or frozen broccoli.
Combine in a Larger Bag: Place the sliced beef bag and the sauce bag into a larger gallon-sized freezer bag. Add the broccoli florets to the larger bag.
Seal and Label: Remove as much air as possible from the larger bag and seal tightly. Label the bag with the name of the dish and the date. When ready to cook, pull out and thaw overnight in refrigerator then follow instructions on recipe.
