Coffee lovers rejoice! I got a cold, gratifying and caffeinated beverage for ya. If you’re in need of a caffeine infused breakfast or afternoon snack that’s healthy and packed full of protein, I got you covered!

Not only is this smoothie packed full of nutrients, like oats, peanut butter, banana and of course espresso powder, but it’s also got a sneaky vegetable you won’t be able to taste, and its packed full of protein to fuel your energy and sustain hunger. This is a shout out to all my mommas with small kids! You NEED this smoothie in your life!

Ingredients for the Creamiest Protein Packed Espresso Smoothie

  • Espresso- I use a finely ground espresso powder for this smoothie, you can use a spice grinder or burr grinder to get the powdery consistency. Best part no need to brew coffee and wait for it to cool down.

  • Frozen riced cauliflower- I like to use riced frozen cauliflower which acts like ice and bonus you get to sneak in a veggie which keeps you full without the crash and burn coffee can sometimes lead to.

  • Frozen banana-This makes the smoothie thick and sweetens it up a touch.

  • Oats-Rolled old-fashioned oats work perfectly in this smoothie, it keeps you full and your energy is sustained for a long period. My favorite brand is One degree sprouted rolled oats which are easier to digest.

  • Organic all-natural Peanut butter- Adds healthy fats and a delicious creaminess to this smoothie. My favorite brand is Costco’s Kirkland Organic PB or Trader Joes, made with just peanuts and salt!

  • Date syrup-I like to sweeten my smoothies with date syrup as opposed to whole dates which sometimes leave it a bit chunky, you can also use maple syrup both are refined sugar free!

  • Vanilla protein powder- My two favorite brands are Flav City Vanilla Cream or Four Sigmatic Sweet Vanilla for a vegan option.

  • Milk- You can use any milk you like for this smoothie, my go-to is Hemp milk. You can try my homemade recipe here for Hemp Milk.

5 Tips for Making The Best Smoothie

  1. Use Frozen Produce-Keep your produce frozen i.e. banana and cauliflower. This will make your smoothie cold, without using any ice and will also prevent your smoothie from getting watered down.

  2. Adjust your milk ratio- Sometimes more milk is needed to make the smoothie the right consistency so don’t be afraid to add more milk or less depending on YOUR desired smoothie consistency.

  3. Use a good quality blender- I’ve had my fair share of blenders, and nothing beats a good quality blender that blends things well. My favorite is The Ninja, Personal with Ice crushing Technology. It’s a work horse for blenders, affordable, not too bulky and it makes single serving drinks (16 oz) which means there’s no waste!

  4. Adjust for sweetness- Date syrup is a great healthy refined sugar free sweetener and don’t be afraid to add more.

  5. Order matters- Always start with at least a little liquid on the bottom of your blender first so any powder, peanut butter or syrup doesn’t get stuck to the bottom and miss out on blending in with the rest of the ingredients. We want a nice homogeneous mixture.
