What makes this healthy ranch dip recipe unique?

This high-protein cottage cheese ranch dip isn’t just delicious—it’s a smart, nourishing choice for snacking. Made with a blend of cottage cheese and sour cream, it packs twice the protein of traditional ranch dips, making it ideal for muscle recovery and keeping you satisfied longer. It’s full of dried herbs and pairs beautifully with fresh vegetables, offering a boost of essential vitamins and minerals.

But what truly sets this dip apart is the secret ingredient: umami seasoning. This all-natural flavor booster adds a rich, savory depth that mimics the crave-worthy taste we associate with store-bought ranch. If you didn’t already know, most commercial ranch mixes rely on MSG for that addictive, satisfying flavor. This version skips the additives and uses real ingredients—like umami seasoning—to deliver that same bold taste, naturally. It’s perfect with raw veggies, whole grain crackers, or even as a spread on sandwiches.

Ingredients you will need for this high protein cottage cheese ranch dip

  • Cottage Cheese– The cottage cheese is blended until creamy smooth and is packed full of protein to keep you satisfied and guilt free!

  • Sour Cream-Sour cream adds a richness and necessary fat.

  • Dried buttermilk- This adds tanginess to the dip and if you’re a fan of those store-bought ranch packets, you are never going back to store bought ranch dip again.

  • Dried chives-A delicate onion flavor, offering depth to this dish.

  • Dried dill- Just a small amount of dill is perfect in the recipe. Not too much or it will overpower the rest of the ingredients.

  • Onion powder- In addition to freshly grated onions i also like to use a small amount of onion powder as it really enhances the overall flavor profile.

  • Salt and pepper- Necessary in this dish, can also just season to taste.

  • Dried parsley- A key ingredient in ranch dips.

  • Garlic powder-Helps balance the dairy richness.

  • Lemon Juice- Calms the sharpness

  • Umami seasoning (MSG alternative)- Adding umami seasoning to your homemade ranch mix takes it to the next level. This seasoning is a combination of dried mushroom, garlic, salt, pepper, chili pepper, mustard, rice concentrate and thyme. While traditional ranch relies on herbs, garlic, and tangy buttermilk for flavor, umami seasoning adds a rich, savory depth that makes the whole blend taste more full-bodied and satisfying—without needing MSG
